Gospel Door
- The six pictures on the right show how you can decorate your front door with the 5 Colors of Christmas. The green is not pictured here but can be displayed with a wreath hanging on the outside of your house. You can glue cut-out letters to display the words on your ribbons. The black is from a paper roll and the rest are wide ribbons. Some of the doors could include verses that explain the meaning of the words on the ribbon (see verses below the pictures).
  • Variation: Decorate a plastic yard sign with the colors; could attach a flyer holder with enclosed flyers offering an explanation of the Gospel.  You could include your church’s information, especially if you are having a Christmas Eve service or a special Christmas service.
Verses to Explain the Decorations on Certain Door Images
Door #3
- “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
Door #5 - “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:22

Prayers - Included in this handout is a sample prayer using the 5 Colors, as well as ideas for writing prayers for each family member. Suggested verses to use in your prayer are also given, as well as ideas for how to include the prayer in you family Christmas gatherings.

How you do respond when things do not go according to plan in your life? At the very first Christmas, many things happened that were not part of the  plan, from man's perspective. See how these people responded to God’s plan in the four Christmas devotionals below.

Family Newsletter – When writing your family Christmas letter include for each member a Bible verse that impacted them this year or something else that God has shown that person this year. This is an opportunity to proclaim God to your family and friends as you share what He has done for you this year.

Handel's Messiah - If you are looking for Christmas music to play during your Christmas celebrations, Handel's Messiah is wonderful masterpiece that captures the majesty of Christmas. Popular songs out of the Messiah for Christmas include "For Unto Us a Child is Born", "Glory to God in the Highest", and "The Hallelujah Chorus." Part 1 of Handel's Messiah is also often played at Christmas because of the verses that focus on the coming of Christ in the Old and New Testament. Youtube or Spotify have good recordings that you could play. After listening to the songs, look up the Scripture that the songs are based off of.

Listen to God's Word
"If you want to hear God speak, read your Bible. If you want to hear God speak audibly, read your Bible out loud [or listen to it!]." ~Justin Peters

Use this handout in your gifts and cards to share resources to hear God's Word with your friends and family; can also give to people you see at the store (or to people you see with ear buds) to introduce them to God's Word. On the back you could include some suggestion of places to start listening (like the Christmas account in Matthew and Luke, the Gospel of Mark, Genesis, etc.)

Prophecy Count Down - Use these prophecy slips to count down to Christmas. Each paper slips has a prophecy concerning Jesus and then its fulfillment on the back. Prophecies include his birth, ministry, death, and resurrection.

Instructions: Print out a set of prophecy slips (pages 1-10). Take the set to a store like UPS and get sets printed so that pages 1-5 are on the front side and pages 6-10 are on the back side of the corresponding 1-5 pages. For example: Dec 01 Prophecy –Place of Birth will be on the front side and Dec 01 Prophecy Fulfilled – Place of Birth will be on the back side. Cut each prophecy into slips. Verse Scramble Game
Instructions:
  1. Post your Christmas verse poster where everyone can see it.
  2. Cut apart the words of the verse so that each guest has one piece of the verse. Depending on the number of guests, the number of words on each paper may vary.
  3. Have the guests line themselves up in the order of the verse.
  4. This order can be used for the serving line or the order in which people sit around the table.
  5. If you have more people than words in your verse you could have two or more sets of this activity. You could print each game set on different colored paper so that the words would not get mixed up. Or you could have different verses for each set and print them on different colored paper to keep the verses separate.
Verses included in the file below: Luke 2:11, Matthew 1:23, and Isaiah 9:6.
