Purity Resources

"Purity ... is a state of heart just like the heart of our Lord Jesus Christ."
(OSwald Chambers*)
On this Page:
Consider First -- The Right Mindset --
Books -- Courses/Conferences/Studies/Curriculum  -- Ministries -- Audio

Consider First -

Has your child/teen believed in the Lord Jesus as their Savior?
  • A person can be "pure" in outward actions and still on their way to Hell.
  • A person without the Spirit of God cannot understand/accept the things of God (1 Cor 2:14).
  • A person who is not born again, will not have the power of the Holy Spirit to do right.
  • Following a list of rules to "right living" will not bring about salvation.
Picture
If your child/teen has not believed in Jesus as their Savior, consider making that your prayer and instruction focus first.

"...Until a man is born again what Jesus says [about purity] does not mean anything to him...Our Lord's teaching [on purity] can be interpreted only by the new Spirit which He puts in; it can never be taken as a series of rules and regulation." (Oswald Chambers*)

The Right Mindset

"No man can make himself pure by obeying laws.
Purity is not a question of doing things rightly,
but of the doer on the inside being right."

(Oswald Chambers*)
What Purity Resources are NOT
What Purity Resources ARE
  • Regulations to be obeyed through grit and determination (our flesh)
  • A list of rules
  • A "to-do" list to check off
  • A way to be a "good Christian"
  • A guarantee of marriage and a fairy-tale ending
  • A workbook or assignment to give your kids and teens
  • A savior
  • To encourage young people to: glorify God (1 Cor 10:31), become more like Christ (Rom 8:29), and to love him fully (Matt 22:37-38).
  • To point us back to Christ because we cannot be pure on our own.
  • To explain what God's ways are when it comes to manhood, womanhood, relationships, etc.
  • Tools to help young people joyfully and purposefully live out the gift of singleness according to God's purpose, and prepare for the gift of marriage if that is His will.
  • A time of mentorship, discipling, and bonding between kids, teens, and their parents/family.
THoughts from a Mom on Discipling Children/Teens in this area
1. As parents, purposefully evaluate your goals for this topic through the eyes of the Bible...not your own beliefs, experiences, culture, or current views. This planning needs to be done first, out of ears of the children, so that Mother and Father have the same goals.

2. Begin age-appropriate discussions on this topic early (actually from 2 yrs on)...in purposeful conversations and during daily life activities.  Discussion topics could include:
  • God created everything, therefore He sets the rules. It is His world.
  • God created everything in the world, (including us)  to glorify Him. This is our overall purpose in life.
  • God is love.  He defines and is the example of love.
  • How are they glorifying God in manhood, womanhood, relationships, etc.? (This reminds them of their ultimate purpose in life.)
  • Differences between girls and boys and validating their God-given design as a boy or girl, including RESPONSIBILITIES, CAPABILITIES, and LIMITATIONS a girl or boy. This type of discussion helps confirm who God designed them to be.
  •  Guidance and discussions ahead of time as to how a girl and a boy would show self-control and good character as they are growing up. Each stage has different issues of self-control and desires. Ultimately they all involve a surrender of our will; what we may selfishly want vs. God's better plan for us.
  • What they see and hear in life, in light of your family goals for manhood, womanhood, relationships, etc.

3. As parents, review and evaluate your plan and fruits of it as your children grow. Give yourselves time to discuss what you are observing about your child, physically and spiritually.  Pray regularly for and with your child and yourselves:
  • For wisdom from His Word.
  • For protection from wrong thoughts . "We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ." (2 Cor 10:5)
  • For a fear of God alone and a desire to seek only the honor of the one true God rather than man (John 5:44).
